The NES Classic Mini Review and How To Get Hold of One

The New Nintendo NES Classic Mini Official Product

Where to buy and full review

The tiny little console that everyone is screaming out for. The New Nintendo NES Classic Mini (it really is tiny) is the most wanted toy of Christmas 2016, next to them damn hatchimals of course. But this has come as quite a surprise to many. We never would have thought that during the run up to Christmas that this tiny little console would be sold out pretty much everywhere! It seems a lot of people where keen to stock pile these all you need to do is check out ebay and you can see for yourself how high the prices are going. Please don’t resort to buying your NES Mini from ebay as it only encourages people to do it more often.

Well we searched for 3 days and managed to get hold of one so here is our review on this fun little console.

Relive the 80’s with your very own NES MINI

Nintendo NES Mini

If your one of many that lived and grew up in the 70’s – 80’s then chances are you have heard of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). As for us born in the late 80’s the SNES was our port of call and I am still waiting for announcement for a SNES Mini, now that is something ill pay over the odds for.

Here at Legion Cheats we have played games for a very long time and remember a large range of consoles, but when we read the announcement back in October about the release of a new NES MINI. We were not very impressed by it at all. We had all ready got hold of revamped SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive) which we were thoroughly enjoying so this wasn’t number one on our list.

Well to our complete surprise the damn thing sold out in minutes, as each day went on our quest to find the nes mini was proving to be hard work. So we decided it would be best to put our quest on hold for a few weeks. So fast forward to mid November. We decided it would be best to go on the hunt for a Nintendo nes classic mini and within 3 days we actually had got hold of one! We were estatic, they were just there for the taking and they were only $59.99. So we rushed back to the office and started to unbox the new nes mini.

At first we was quite disappointed the damn thing really was mini. It’s about the size of the original gameboy so if you remember them chunky things, you won’t be surprised when you un box this piece of kit. Now this wasn’t the only problem in regards to the console. Here is a list of things to take into account before purchasing the new nes classic mini:

It’s so tiny, We renamed it the NES TINY

That’s right it’s small, we were expecting that but really until you get it you may be quite shocked, at least it’s travel size. The $60 price tag is exactly what you should expect to pay and not a penny more.

The Controller cables are quite short

This was either an intended designer fault so you will need to purchase extension cables or a rushed job. Cables are under $10 each. You can find them Here

There is no way to power the console up

This has left quite a few people confused. For some bizzare reason Nintendo didn’t include a usb charger for your NES Mini. This means your going to have to buy one and they aint cheap. The good thing is that if you have a smart phone you will be able to use that as most of these charges have removable usb cables.

There is only one controller

Wtf Nintendo! This has annoyed he heck out of me, not because I have to fork out $10 for one, no no no. It’s the fact that I can’t find them anywhere! People are charging a fortune for them. You might be lucky to get one from Amazon. But expect to pay over the odds for them. Plus they’re even harder to find!

You can only play the 30 preloaded games

That’s right guys and girls you can’t play the old NES cartridges, so it really is just about nostalgia with this one. If you don’t like the 30 games on offer just don’t get it.

Here is a full list of the games available on The New Classic NES Mini

  • Balloon Fight
  • Bubble Bobble
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Double Dragon II: The Revenge
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • Final Fantasy
  • Galaga
  • Ghosts N’ Goblins

  • Super C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

As you can see it has some really big titles and this may be one of the real reason as to why they are selling like hot cakes. Because after all you can buy an Original NES for cheaper than these things are selling at! Of course it will be used but for the sake of “memories” is it really worth the $100+ people are charging for it?

But on social media I keep seeing people saying they are getting them for their 4 years old etc. Utter nonsense they want it for themselves quite clearly, they just don’t want to admit it.

The controller plays the same way, heck the games are pretty much the same. But we feel this is just an effort to milk cash from Nintendo fans due to the cost of a power plug, cable extensions and the extra controller. But if you can get them cheap why not right?
